Despite administrative penalties, watch camp in Mount Ida for Alamos Gold's Gold and Silver Mine Project has been going on for 270 days. Their licence was expired on 13th of October, 2019 and it was not renewed. Yet they did not leave. https://twitter.com/KazdaglarK/status/1252263642885734400
Today Provincial Directorate of Forestry made a notification for the evacuation of the camp. The decision is from Provincial General Sanitary Board by using the pandemic as an excuse.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the measures has been taken with isolation of the people at the camp and other rules. It was within the knowledge of the gendarmerie from the first day.
The decision also includes the prohibition of drone flights in forest areas - which has nothing to do with the pandemic. Now people from the camp ask: 1) How does the prohibition of drone flights have an effect on combating the pandemic?
2) Does the Provincial General Sanitary Board want to prevent documenting of the damages with these decisions? Why the security of the company is still there then?
3) This decision will bring the people who heard the evacuation to come back to camp in order to defend and support again. Is it really possible that The Board is not aware of people's opinion about the destruction in Mount Ida? How could they made such a risky decision?
4) The evacuation of those who are isolated in the area right now means rhat they are forced to leave there and to make intercity travels. Does it really makes sense?
5) @AlamosGoldInc and @BigaDogu don't know this news? Really? Their humanitarian PR team should have done better than sending silly concerned tweets on health. Or they're just eating popcorn and watching the beloved Governor do the job?
For weeks, we've been following the changes in regulations that they constantly made by taking advantage of the fact that people's attention is on the pandemic now. Like in many other country, the pandemic is intended to be turned into an opportunity for nature plunder in Turkey
@AlamosGoldInc and its Turkish subcontractor @BigaDogu are still here without the licence. We do not accept to be taken out from our home while the thieves remain. This decisioun is unacceptable, especially in these quarantine days.
This is a global issue. Right now, in many African country, Indonesia, Canada, the Philippines etc., the same decisions, regulations, speeches are being made and considered by the Governments. The cost of the pandemic will be upon the shoulders of nature AGAIN.
Example: "In the Philippines in midst of the on-going pandemic the same thing is happening. In spite of the health crisis, the Philippine government continue to favor corporations in plundering the people resources at the expense of human rights and environment."
The Kalikasan People's Network for Environment (Kalikasan PNE) request your support for recent human rights violations directed at Filipino land and environment defenders in the midst of the pandemic. These violations are characterized as occurring in a time when the capacity
+ of defenders to assert their democratic rights are severely constrained by lockdowns, arbitrary arrests, and other heavy-handed measures supposedly meant for containing the outbreak of the infectious disease."
