Communication will be key in this draft and I'm confident we won't have a repeat of what happened in 1982. That was the year the Bucs drafted the wrong player in the first round. True story. And it happened like this ...

The Bucs assigned their trusty equipment manger Pat Marcuccillo to the draft in NYC. Ken Herock, the team's director of player personnel, instructed Marcuccillo to write down two names: Sean Farrell and Booker Reese.

Making matters worse, the Bucs liked Reese so much they traded a future first-round pick to move up in the second round to take the Bethume-Cookman pass rusher. While Farrell enjoyed an 11-year Pro Bowl career, Reese washed out of the league in 3 years.

But because of loud crowd noise at the Sheraton Hotel where the draft was being held, all the equipment manager heard was Farrell, and with seconds left he turned in the card with Farrell's name on it. The Bucs tried to rescind the pick but it was too late.

Farrell was an offesive guard and Booker a pass rusher and both were finalists for the Bucs' 17th overall pick. On the clock and with under a minute left, Herock told Marcuccillo to take Booker, not Reese. "Booker, NOT Reese, got it?"
