I know Rin has decided to move on after receiving Mackenzie's unseasoned apology. But I still want to talk about POC being disrespected in the publishing/reading world for a bit. I'm not an expert. Just pulling on the things I've heard. Strap in folks.
Mackenzie was wrong to doodle and draw in other authors' books. End of story. No, I will not discuss or debate. Do that with your IRL friends who have time to waste hanging out with you. I'm a freelance writer and author doing my job. Not your friend. Agree or BOUNCE!
The absolute disrespect of some of you in Rin's tweets. Telling POC to 'chill' instead of speaking out about being wrong is racist AF. I said it, come find me P-A-B-L-O. I live in Jamaica where any existing racism ain't nearly as bad as other places. Y'all abroad deal with a lot.
I still remember Justine Ireland tweeting in real-time about some lady chalk line trying to get her fired. Even contacting this hard-working black woman's agent. Not realizing he was both an ally and not willing to hurt his clients over random lady mayo's hurt feelings. Like...
I also had my own experience as a reviewer over at @queendsheena. Someone thought because I gave a low review for one of their books on Amazon. They could come for me and make up a bunch of lies. Read that white dishrag for filth on my blog. Don't try that shit with me. EVER!
Then there was that eggshell dudebro author who decided to write a book about a trans character by dead naming right in the title. He had the audacity to after trans readers & writers who said this was wrong. How dare the people who you write about speak like they have opinions.
And for anyone wondering why I mentioned transsexuals in this thread. If you need to be told POC has transpeople there too. Please block me and disappear. Say nothing. Just go and never return.
Not to mention the theft of art done by cover artists and graphic designers. It's highly disrespectful and illegal. And don't think it's just some small press or individual writer. The bigger publishers have done this too. Absolute half-ripe behavior right in the public eye.
I'm leaving it here for now. There needs to be more respect for black, Asian, Latinx, and other POC writers/authors in the industry and wider circles. From the consumers right up to those in publishing. Otherwise, the change will not come to the extent that's needed.
