I'm literally so close to logging out BC of all this drama. It was two years ago. They didn't choose the music. The program thing they were on did. They were just doing what they were trained to do and went along with it. They're not educated in the millions of cultures we have.
Besides, I seriously doubt that they would use music that isn't a part of their culture or American since those two are the ones they know won't offend ppl. They've danced to American music. Should we get pissed at that, too? Can they not dance to music their ancestors did?
This is just like the cornrows/braid drama where ppl couldn't tell the difference, or ppl who had no knowledge of what they were talking about but were chiming in and throwing hate based on assumptions or uneducated statements.
Seonghwa, Yeosang, and San are ppl who aren't the type to make fun of other cultures. Why must it be cultural APPROPRIATION and not cultural DIFFUSION? It's not like cultural diffusion isn't a thing. Look at history. There are signs of it everywhere and all throughout time.
Can ppl stop being so closed minded and open up opinions like this? Ik the quarantine is shitty, but you don't have to use your time and effort to pick apart every idol's actions and then tear them down.
I'm not saying what kind of music or what kind of hairstyle they "appropriated", so don't attack me for choosing one side or another. This is just my open-minded train of thought. If you don't like it, unfollow or block me. I don't really care.
OK. This is blowing up, so I'm also gonna throw out the information that I'm not South Asian and I'm not claiming to be in this thread. I'm American. The "we" I'm talking about is the world in general.
And as for the dancing, I didn't see anything about it until after I posted this. The statement I said about me not choosing a side also goes for the dance. I make no claim to what they(Sh & Ys) or I know of cultures or religions and what is important to them.
They used what knowledge they had and applied it to them being put on the spot. I'm sure most people have done something like that. Especially dancing to the music according to the beat and melody of the song.
