Should I take a bite at the “men are trash” discourse

I’ll just summarize my points:
• When women say “men are trash” it’s usually out of real frustration and very real pain they have experiences at the hands of men (actively/passively).
• Misogyny is a grave evil; there is real abuse and death from it.

• I think we, as men, often downplay how much we participate is misogyny, actively or passively. Many of us have misogynistic tendencies/beliefs and are unaware of it. Many of us also know other men do, but don’t do much about it.

• The men who generally don’t get as upset/upset at all when women say “men are trash” usually understand it’s a generalization. Women aren’t dumb they know it’s not all men.
• But unfortunately a good portion of men, especially those w/more influence are misogynist.

• To affirm my last point, just look at the #MeToo movement and see how many men w/a level of status have abused their power.
• Follow up, look at how many *average* men have also abused their power. Misogyny is real and pervasive in society.

• I will like to say I do think a good portion of men are well-intentioned and *genuinely* are unaware or don’t get it at all.
• That isn’t an excuse bc we as men shouldn’t settle, but lead. We don’t need to be coddled, we’re capable of being proactive.

• A lot of what women are saying *now* isn’t *new*. Even what I’m saying by all accounts isn’t new. Women have been saying this basically forever, so as men, we can/should do better to really just listen w/compassion as to what women think we can/should be doing better at.

• Anyway, my point being. Misogyny is real, and in one way or another, we as men, have often actively taken part in it, or passively stood by and allowed it to continue unchallenged.
• Misogyny harms not just the women we care about, but all women.

• So I’m just say to men: listen to women, continue to be charitable, hold yourself accountable, call out our fellow brothers, and be proactive on learning how we can really lead as men and help.

And if you’re already doing this. Great! This thread isn’t about or for you.

• And to the ladies: I would like to thank you for all the times you have extended us mercy and patience for our own ignorance. Really all we as men can say is more than sorry, is that we will try to be better. Please continue to be merciful towards us in our failures as men.
