Beyond some good blanket statements about not giving oil and gas companies bailouts, it's honestly pretty shocking how quiet progressive leaders have been about the world historic changes in the sector this year and what a climate-conscious, equitable response should look like
This has been coming for years and the lack of a coherent policy response from people who should have known better is really upsetting
It's not just that we need to transition off fossil fuels, but that potentially millions of people will suffer from this price drop because there isn't a plan to transition livelihoods and public budgets off of them either
This isn't, I don't think, "the end of oil". Demand will come back. But the end, as they say, is nigh, and there are lots of people and countries who are going to be on the losing end here. We need an orderly, managed, humane, and thoroughly internationalist end of oil.
