Being a leftist means supporting offshoring of manufacturing to cheaper labor markets and the more offshoring you do the more of an international leftist you are.
Singing the Internationale at the board meeting where we decided to relocate manufacturing to China and data entry to the Philippines. One world, one people!
Like a lot of things I tweet people will think this is an over-the-top joke, but I have an IRL friend who was a big Bernie supporter, listens to Chapo, & anyways she worked at one of the big tech companies, part of her 6-figure job used to be training Philippine low-wage workers.
I asked her about American workers and if this contradicted her beliefs and political morals and she said sure it’s not ideal, but Capital is out of the bag, the world really is global, and we have to get workers to unite internationally.
Perfectly nice person, I have a lot of interpersonal affection for this person - very genuinely, I like her and think she’s good. But this just indicates to me how ones class position is more important than political beliefs, and there cannot be a bourgeois left.
