ayt, since my laptops is updating let me dive into this real quick https://twitter.com/severinothewolf/status/1246112844841615360
So at a specific year in my career, i was working crew for a certain media house, whom i became good friends with the owners one being a big brother figure til date,

they had one client that we did work for and they loved my photography.
the comms manager and i had a chat on one of the jobs we were doing aside from the media house owners and we became cool, i had no intention of going behind their back to get work from them cos that’s not how I operate, so one day he tells me how much he loves my work...
And how he feels their company needs a photographer on retainer cos they’re a visual based entity cos of their multiple projects so im like cool if you need me holla.

fast track a few months later i bump into him at shikulus and he says man i really need you as our photographer
he then reveals how much the contract is worth and im like I’ve finally got my break, bare in mind i hadnt told those other guys yet cos i didnt want to jinx it, so a few weeks later he sets up a meeting and we agree on everything that is presented, so now im like...
i need to talk to those guys cos this is a serious contract and they need to be included in all this, so the comms manager calls me and asks me if he can talk to them first and me being me (stupid) i said yeah and he asks if they’ll have a problem and i say nah they wont...
about 5 minutes later i get a call from the comms manager and he says dude you need to speak to those guys cos you’ve messed up big time... in my head im like “yeah im not getting this contract” and immediately enter damage control mode,
I call those guys...
And dude is audibly upset with what he had been told from the comms manager but he’s diplomatic and says they need to think over things, im immediately regretting allowing the comms manager to have informed them first cos i mean i now look like a snake.
we finally set up a meetings and I explain why i hadnt said anything til the last minute cos I didn’t want to jinx it and also i knew it was straight forward, i get the contract > ask them what percentage of the deal would make them happy seeing as its their client > work.
anyways thats how i lost the trust of people I genuinely had the best intentions for and a £15,000 contract

What Are My Lessons From This?
1. If you work with a crew and you’re approached directly notify the guys you work for so they handle it
2. When you create a rift between the company you work for and their client accept it and make sure you communicate that the differences are all your fault and ensure you don’t tarnish the relationship they had.
3. Learn to be accountable and accept your faults in the story, it may or may not salvage your working relationship either way you maintain integrity.

4. Always look for the silver lining.
quite abit happened after this incident that really had me contemplate whether im made for this creative stuff but as Madiba said,

“tough times dont last tough people do blwrrrrllrlrlrrbrlrl”
