When the pandemic is over I will lobby my representatives to pass a law requiring businesses with 500+ employees to have 3 months of operating expenses in savings at all times, or buy into business interruption insurance backed by the government, subsidizing protection for /1
small businesses. Taxpayers should not have to bail out companies that had record profits and tax cuts just a year ago and used all to buy back stock or give extravagant bonuses to executives. Also in the law - any taxpayer-funded bailout can only go to businesses which /2
have workforce of at least 75% US citizens and legal residents, and which pay US taxes. No more Liberia-flagged cruise ships, no more incorporating in the Cayman Islands. Enough. We are raised to "save for a rainy day". Well it's fucking pouring. Companies should save too. /end
