Whenever someone says 'if your great-grandparents wouldn't recognise it as food, avoid it' I remember that one of my great-grandfathers, a butcher, used to take the fat he'd trimmed off meat before it was sold and just fry it for breakfast. Fat on toast.
I mean, I love fat on toast - in my case butter and cheese - but that's seldom what these people are thinking of.
(the other one had more normal breakfasts but he was a bigamist, so I'll take the fat)
