Why Netflix could / should renew Anne with an E: A (long) thread.

Lately, I see this question pop up a lot (again): Do you believe there is still a chance that Anne with an E gets renewed?

Well, I do. In this thread I'll explain why.

The focus is on Netflix.

Based on their current position in the global streaming market, renewing Anne with an E would be an interesting investment for them.

They feel the pressure of new and alternative streaming platforms and video providers.

To mention a few: Disney+, Youtube, IMDb TV, Amazon, Peacock.

There are several options for Netflix to improve and strengthen their position and earnings:

- Higher prices
- Income through adds
- Subscriber growth

- Higher prices wouldn't do them much good right now. The competition's content keeps improving, and their products are lower in price or even free.

- Being ad free is one of Netflix' pet peeves. They want to remain thát streaming service for their customers.

- Subscriber growth is what they are looking for. Not domestically, as The USA is pretty much a mature market for them.

What they need right now, is content aimed at specific markets with a lot of subscriber growth potential, like South-America.

You all know what's next.

Brazil is Netflix' 3rd most important foreign source of income, after Australia and the UK.

Australia is also a very mature market, with 14,439,047 subscribers on a population of 26 million.

The UK has 12,538,970 / 66 million.

So there is growth potential in the UK, but it can't compete with Brazil.

Netflix has 10,897,878 subscribers in Brazil on a population of 212 (!) million. The amount of potential new subscribers there is HUGE.

So, Netflix needs content that could do well in Brazil. I'm thinking..

Anne with an E season 4, 5 and why not 6?

We all know how popular it is in Brazil: It's right up there with The Witcher, Stranger Things, Sex Education, etc.

This is a no brainer.

Add to that the fact that Netflix wants to provide big amounts of different content, so every customer can find things to their own taste and liking.

With Anne with an E, they have a unique, widely appreciated show, unlike any other in their gigantic library.

So, why hasn't it been renewed yet, you may ask?

First of all, we don't know if CBC is willing to let go of any rights they have on the production or broadcasting of Anne with an E.

Secondly, there is the pending lawsuit against Northwood and Moira (© issue).

And thirdly, of course, the consequences of COVID-19.

For now, let's keep making noise, increase the demand, promote the petition.

Netflix announces their first quarter numbers tomorrow, that could be interesting for us.
