Surprised Harvard published an essay that relies entirely on anecdotes & hypotheticals to drive a preexisting narrative.

Inconveniently, all of the data on homeschooling suggests the exact opposite…

Harvard: Homeschooling “violates children’s right to a ‘meaningful education.’”

Data: “Homeschool students’ SAT scores were 0.61 std dev higher in reading, 0.26 std dev higher in math, and 0.42 std dev higher in writing.” https://www.nheri.org/homeschool-sat-scores-for-2014-higher-than-national-average/

Homeschooling is hard. There are many valid critiques. It needs infrastructure. We’re working on this exact problem at @withprimer.

But I’ve talked to hundreds of homeschooling parents over the last year, and I’ve walked away from every conversation feeling like they are heroes.
They are not perfect. But just like my parents, they are dedicating hundreds of hours a month to give their kids a rich, experience-driven education — one where they can follow their passions, learn to think for themselves, and bridge the gap between education and the real world.
Lastly — if you’re reading this Elizabeth Bartholet, I’d genuinely love to have a conversation with you about your thoughts on homeschooling. There are valid criticisms that are worth discussing.
