I like my house. I am very privileged, I know, because I HAVE a house, and it contains more rooms than it does people. I also have a backyard and a garage. Not everyone has those things.
I like my house. I often stay inside it for multiple days in a row solely of my own volition. I live here because I like it here. I have internet and a PS4 and several streaming services. I like my house.
And all that being said, wow do I understand the cabin fever of "you MUST stay in your house." I miss going to Target not because I need something, but because I want to go to Target. I miss grocery shopping without a mask. I miss airports and Weight Watchers.
But when people insist that their missing those things--missing the freedom to move through the world at will--matters more than my life, or the life of my loved ones--they keep me, and everyone, away from those things longer.
We have a rare opportunity to save a lot of lives by staying indoors and watching Netflix. And no, that isn't going to be comfortable for all of us. I've shared a one-bedroom apartment for five other people. Some of us are trapped in hell right now. I know I'm lucky.
But honestly, right now, carelessly moving through the world is an act of violence. And the fact that some of us are too selfish to set aside our personal discomfort and consider how much more we have to lose is depressing as hell.
Horror fans make fun of the person in the zombie movie who hides their bite.

This pandemic is showing us how many people like that exist. I miss Target. Stay the fuck home so that someday we can safely go there again.
