I've been thinking about this thread a lot. It's bizarre that a big name feels the need to email denigrating comments to the publicist of someone else who has a book coming out the same day. But he has a history of sending toxic emails. https://twitter.com/joanryan/status/1251664661763616768
Keith's behavior is not at all in line with the collaborative spirit that propels science forward. And he insists that we listen to experts - but he has written a book about psychology, having no background in psychology, either in terms of education or practice.
His hypocrisy extends beyond his insistence that we listen to experts while also insisting that we listen to him in areas where he is not an expert. Based on my own interactions with Keith, he isn't the progressive supporter of women that he portrays himself as on Twitter.
Since he loves talking about cognitive biases, cognitive dissonance, and the Dunning-Kruger effect, maybe he can talk about whether he's blind to his own failings and hypocrisy, or if he's aware of it but also realizes he has an act to play on Twitter.
I think that his HoF takes when it comes to electing known abusers is bad. And given some of the comments he has made to me in the past, he does not seem to understand the role of unpaid labor of women in promoting and supporting men, which is a big problem in baseball.
But much more importantly - he's a creep, and I wrote it off as social ineptitude for too long. I can't speak to the rumors I've heard, but I can share my own interactions and observations. He doesn't seem to recognize that it's not appropriate to try to kiss a friend.
He doesn't recognize that when a woman tells him she has a boyfriend, that's a sign that she is not interested in him. He continued to insist that she should break up with her boyfriend so she could date him instead. That is highly problematic on many levels!
I am really tired of whisper networks and people being afraid to call out creeps. Of course, if I used Keith's MO, I would snitch tag or email his boss - or his girlfriend - in all this. Instead, I will leave this thread viewable for everyone, including @keithlaw.
