Is it just me or are most Saas explainer videos with their little cartoons and music and voiceover totally useless for evaluating if it’s right for you? For example...
I’m trying to find a personal time tracking app with certain features to track what % of time I spend on different things this week. Found https://memory.ai/timely . I want to see how it supposedly gets around the annoyance of starting/stopping a timer...but this video
Is so bad, it’s like multiple minutes of cartoons to tell me the most basic stuff, like: hey your life is so busy, look at all these cartoon todos floating in the air...timely fixes it! https://vimeo.com/367711051
What would be far more useful is to cut the cartoons, cut the music, and have a 5 min video where someone on their team is demoing the actual product so users can actually see what’s inside and if it’s right for them.
This is like an anti-service business waiting to happen: instead of fancy produced explainer videos, pay me $5 and I’ll get on the phone and yell at you to just record your screen and walk through your own app!
Hmm, on second thought I wonder if there’s a REAL service business here: help the company do the customer research needed to figure out what benefits and corresponding features they’re interested in, create the walkthrough video that explains that for you
No fancy cartoons or production, focused exclusively on Saas sites, positioning: You’re wasting hella $$$ on a fancy produced video that does nothing. Use it instead on extensive research on what your visitors want to see and deliver it with a simple but super clear walkthrough
