Government Medical College Srinagar has a dedicated COVID hospital at Chest Diseases Hospital Srinagar and all highly suspect/ confirmed COVID-19 cases are admitted there.
CD Hospital is our designated facility for COVID patients.

In addition, Respiratory Clinics have been established at major hospitals including SMHS Hospital Srinagar where a person is screened and sent either to CD hospital directly or to an isolation facility within SMHS.
It is important to note this distinction. CD is currently EXCLUSIVELY treating COVID + patients.

It is the primary facility with other hospitals, including SMHS, having designated respiratory clinics for testing.

In the specific case of SMHS we have added another layer.
SEVEN paid rooms with medical ICU (MICU) facility with each having separate toilet/ washroom have been designated as an isolation facility for suspect cases.
These cases are patients with influenza like symptoms and lower respiratory tract infections with co-morbidities wherein sampling for testing of such cases for COVID is also done.
Due to growing number of such cases with acute respiratory illnesses, so as to not fall short, ANOTHER medical emergency ward in Casualty Block has been dedicated for similar cases having influenza like illnesses (ILI) or Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI)
They are also tested for COVID-19 Infection amongst another investigations.

This facility too has a separate toilet within the ward.
Any patient have high suspicion of COVID-19 is referred to CD Hospital at the time of arrival in Emergency of SMHS Hospital.
Those who are not high suspects are put in either of the two isolation wards.

Each ward is equipped with a toilet facility unlike the what the media may lead you to believe.

Each ward also hosts low suspects as the high suspects are sent immediately to CD.
As on date, ALL patients so far tested from EITHER of the isolation wards have tested negative thereby proving our hypothesis of them being low suspect.
At this trying time, the last thing doctors need is pressure to compose answers when they should be attending to the pandemic around them. Support doctors, empathise and kindly refrain from engaging with sensational news items.
