SUSSEX MEDIA STRATEGY: A THREAD

/ The timing of their letter to four UK publications is clearly to strengthen public opinion in their legal case against the Daily Mail. They are continuing to play the victim, but making it so public and dramatic is just going to backfire.
/ By doing this, they have effectively declared war on these outlets - many of which have played their media game by printing stories from "friends," a tactic that Harry and Meghan use more than most royals/celebs so that they can have plausible deniability with BP and HMTQ.
/ They are losing valuable allies- the less gossipy publications won't publish every detail of M's outfits, or smaller news - but maybe they don't care? US outlets will still do this, so it's possible that it doesn't matter to them that they are cutting off the British public.
/ What this mainly does to the papers is make them unable to fact check or verify anything from any sources. This will cut them off at the knees a bit for "exclusives," but will also have the affect that now these papers are not going to let them off the hook for ANYTHING.
/ There are still "royal experts" to give scathing opinions, other background sources willing to speak, and plenty that they are doing in the public eye that is a matter of public record that the outlets can report on. There is also the overall support of the rest of the media.
/ As we have already seen, a huge portion of the media will take issue with this. They will protect the concept of a free press before they defend these two. Also, cutting off the most popular outlets that are read by all classes of British people is ELITIST and CLASSIST.
/ On a personal note, I find their clear need for control and their desire for constant attention to be at extreme odds. It makes them look like hypocrites and weakens any sympathy people may have for the handful of bad or inaccurate stories that led to this.
/ In terms of Thomas Markle, I have always thought that situation was very sad and that more had happened than we could possibly know. I think he made significant mistakes, and I think Meghan and Harry made significant mistakes. My main issue is in regards to the lawsuit.
/ There is no way Meghan did not 100% dictate the contents of the People story. That mag actually signs contracts with celebrities to publish positive stories about them. They care about access more than anything, and would have given her team full approval over the contents.
/ None of Meghan's "friends" speak to media without her permission, because if they did, they would lose access to her and the press/power that comes with that. Her suing other outlets over the publication of the letter is another example of hypocrisy.
/ This lawsuit may reveal A LOT that they don't want revealed, which is likely why they came out with their side first. Even if they win, their media strategy, tactics and relationships will likely be exposed, not all good or bad, but more than they want the public to know.
