I found this grave in my local churchyard years ago.

Walter Alexander Dixon was a RCAF pilot & died when his plane crashed at my local airfield in WW2

Every year I place a small wooden cross on his grave.

Today, I was sent his photo & told his relatives want to contact me.
To say I’m chuffed is an understatement.

I came across his grave & did some research.
He was based where I was with the police helicopter at RAF Woodvale.

I thought it such a shame that he was buried many miles from his family, so I visit him regularly to pay my respects.
He was a pilot on the Typhoon aircraft which had a dreadful reputation for mechanical failure.

He suffered an engine failure on take off and was unable to recover.

He managed to clear the railway line but crashed on Formby golf course.

Lest we forget. 🇹🇩
