Okay, I need to say something about the @ACLU and their constant scaremongering about "invasive screenings". Bear with me, as I'm actually really angry about their portrayal of this, so it may take a few tweets and I'm kinda freestyling it a bit here. https://twitter.com/ACLU/status/1248743101855870980
Right, *breathes*, I first started thinking about this when I read their court docs, which you can see for yourself here...

What I find really interesting about this is that @ACLU have constantly framed this as a "trans and intersex rights issue", so you would think, right, that the two plaintiffs would come from both of those groups. Well, you'd be wrong.
Instead, we have a trans girl and a "cisgender" girl. Interesting. As trans activists will often tell us, intersex people are 1.7% of the population. It seems unlikely no girls with DSDs, therefore, live in Idaho. If it's supposed to impact on them, why no intersex plaintiff?
Well, this becomes clear once you read "Jane Doe", the "cisgender" girls "concerns". Jane is worried, we're told, about "having to go through invasive and uncomfortable tests". Jane has never had a pelvic exam and doesn't want one. Lucky Jane.
If Jane were a girl with a DSD, the fact is this would be part of Jane's life already. Pelvic exams, hormone tests, internal ultrasounds are all part of the diagnostic process for DSDs. I have strong memories of all of these things from my teens.
This is what normal looks like for us. They are a fact of our life. How dare the @ACLU paint these things as somehow dirty and wrong. I have had trans activists tell me, in the last week, that I'm supporting sexual assault on girls by pointing this out. This has to stop.
Who do these people think they are to try to shame girls with DSDs about medical procedures that we *need* for our health? The absolute privilege that takes is breathtaking, especially when they claim to be doing so in our name.
The @ACLU are incapable of representing women and girls with DSDs as they have no understanding of nor respect for our experiences. They do not care about the impact their scaremongering will have on teen girls with DSDs. How it will impact on our medical care and needs.
It is shameful that some intersex orgs have chosen to throw their weight behind this. They do not represent me, nor the millions of girls now being made to feel that their doctors are abusing them by performing important tests and prioritising our healthcare.
As I said at the beginning, I am so livid about this. The constant insensitivity shown to people with DSDs is beyond a joke now. It is cruel. I am tired of being abused by political activists who claim to speak for me and to be doing so "for my own good". You don't speak for me.
The aim seems to be to embarrass and shame people with DSDs into dark corners, so that we can be used and abused as an end to someone else's means. I will not stand by and watch this happen. We deserve respect and diginty too. We are not your pawns.
