A thread of landscapes and places that I love:
1) The Columbia River Gorge. I& #39;ve driven through here hundreds of times going between Yakima and Portland and don& #39;t appreciate it enough - it& #39;s a National Scenic Area.
2) The Burren in County Clare, Ireland. Impossibly rocky, stunning coastline, dotted with the ruins of 4000-year-old megaliths, ringforts, and medieval tower houses.
3) San Gimignano, Tuscany. It& #39;s where I fell in love with the Middle Ages - these winding, narrow streets, towers jutting upward, and somehow the Tuscan countryside around it is even more gorgeous.
4) Beng Mealea, Cambodia. A ruined temple complex near Angkor Wat, reduces to rubble by the relentless jungle. I took this picture myself.
I& #39;ll come back to this thread later, but wanted to start it. We& #39;re now five weeks into the lockdown and it& #39;s beginning to seem like the outside world doesn& #39;t even really exist, so escaping even for a second feels so good.
(returning to the thread)
5) The Oregon coast, especially Neahkahnie Mountain.
6) The Dingle Peninsula, at the southwest tip of Ireland.
