A thread of landscapes and places that I love:
1) The Columbia River Gorge. I've driven through here hundreds of times going between Yakima and Portland and don't appreciate it enough - it's a National Scenic Area.
2) The Burren in County Clare, Ireland. Impossibly rocky, stunning coastline, dotted with the ruins of 4000-year-old megaliths, ringforts, and medieval tower houses.
3) San Gimignano, Tuscany. It's where I fell in love with the Middle Ages - these winding, narrow streets, towers jutting upward, and somehow the Tuscan countryside around it is even more gorgeous.
4) Beng Mealea, Cambodia. A ruined temple complex near Angkor Wat, reduces to rubble by the relentless jungle. I took this picture myself.
I'll come back to this thread later, but wanted to start it. We're now five weeks into the lockdown and it's beginning to seem like the outside world doesn't even really exist, so escaping even for a second feels so good.
(returning to the thread)
5) The Oregon coast, especially Neahkahnie Mountain.
6) The Dingle Peninsula, at the southwest tip of Ireland.
