i took a journalism course once, thinking about being a journalist, and one of the tutors told the class about a bunch of times he had to compromise his ethics (not report a story because it made a company that advertised in the paper look bad, etc) so i quit

i also did not like shorthand. probably a 50/50 split between the ethics and the shorthand
