standout audition to me was dong pan's. god damn, what a VOICE. but also there were lots of compelling narratives and i look forward to more of it!!

i finished episode 4 yet and maybe it's because there's a couple of /very/ seasoned performers in the group but some of the performances are, like, holy cow. so good. i'm still thinking about liu yan and zhou qi's "ache".

also "funiculi, funicula"!!! i don't have a fav like caicai yet but guo hongxu makes me feel like crying all the time and i just think dong pan is amazing. his VOICE.

moving onto ep 8 except ive already seen parts of this ep because i saw the special collabs so naturally i skipped forward to see the matchups. anyway, ma jia 5ever, but i really liked jia fan here. ccy did not do great but thats ok darling you're not perfect and that's fine.

oh i have thoughts!! i rly loved that team dong pan worked w jhc because he's such a good arranger and his musical knowledge is so deep. while i loved piano man, it could have been better had it benefited from a more mature arrangement which is why jhc is perfect for them!

the upward trajectory of dai chen. just one of my favorite things.

ep9 should come with a crying warning. i feel wrung out watching the special visits. yoikes. also another word for the older mentors, they are SO very generous with the kids. it's great.

i was initially sort of ambivalent about hu hao and then he made this face and this NOISE when the audience said they liked him most and now im onboard

ok. that evolve performance. steeples fingers. at this point, i rly think xjs is so beyond his years. he's only 22 but he leads his team so well, is supportive, is incredibly smart musically and he thinks about the overall presentation because of his theater bg. he is so good.

it took 9 episodes to get them to sing together and it was worth the wait.

im not done yet but i think episode 9 is so good. no bad performances to be seen throughout the whole episode, and there were 9 of them.

i cant pick a favorite team because my favorite leader is qiyuan, my favorite vocalist is xuxu, im so impressed by xjs and i am riveted by the double heh dynamic. plus zhao yue is talented and cute in glasses and i love yingxi being so good and yet so nice.

i havent said it yet but i really truly love liangchen's voice, i have from the start. plus he's just so HANDSOME.

im rly happy fanjia had so many chances to sing in the latter half of the season.

oh i am heartbroken even though i understand and know why i am still heartbroken

anyway moving on watching xjs cry like this made me cry because i think he's just been the best leader at building team unity, and he's been hustling since day ONE, singing, translating, etc, so this little moment where he's just overwhelmed and proud of his boys broke me, nbd.

i played myself and finished sv2 even if i skimmed thru most performances in the last episode because i just wanted to see who would make it into the final team and im pretty happy with how things ended up. everyone who made it deserved it.

that said these boys are going to kill me. who told dong pan he had to run to xuxu all dramatic and romantic like that? and who told heh yilin to do the same? cant stand them.

ALSO that one time they said dong pan had no emotion and now he's out there, last episode, on the verge of tears every single second. stop making him CRY, it hurts me.

okay i cant do fav performances yet but fave boys (not necessarily fav voices, btw) are xuxu, yuan ge, dong pan, daxi, fanjia, minhui, yibin, liangchen, and dai chen, with junshuo, zhao yue and guangquan honorable mentions.

overall i rly loved gmi36, in a different way than mxh36 perhaps? i agree that mxh36 had way more variety in voice types, and i think i liked the set up of mxh more than gmi (i missed seeing the kids react live in the same room as performers). back half of gmi was so good tho.

i think i remember more performances from mxh but a lot of performances from gmi are really just so fucking good and memorable. more vocalists stuck with me from mxh but some gmi vocalists are just SO brilliant. it's really best if you enjoy both seasons individually!

but they rly have to do something to vary episodes 3 to 6, those were so stagnant for gmi36. i never had that feeling from mxh because they integrated the challenge from the apprentices so early? hope there's a season 3!! is there news on that?

anyway, cat tries to navigate srrx s2 bonus episodes without subtitles!! ep2 bonus ep with bojun forgetting his profile folders... a HAM.
