So I wrote a viral poem (which is wild). And in the last week, I gained 1000 new followers. Hi!

If you're here for poetry, I hope you're not disappointed.

I am a writer, & I do write some poetry. But I mostly tweet about teaching, writing, equity, Appalachia, & West Virginia
The poetry is few and far between.

So if you are here for the poetry, here are some of my favorite West Virginia and Appalachian poets. These are folks who I also use in my classroom quite a bit as well. A thread:
@cgoodwoman is one of my favorite West Virginia poets and a member of the Affrilachian poetry collective. You may recognize her from Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown West Virginia episode. Here she is reading Boom, Boom. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=9&v=UCHpg24Vilc&feature=emb_logo
Marc Harshman is our WV Poet Laureate. I have often described Marc's poetry as sounding like if Walt Whitman and Robert Frost took a hike together through WVa. I love his collection Green, Silver, and Silent: https://marcharshman.com
I love all of the work of the poets in Affrilachian poetry collective, but Frank X Walker's work has found a special place in my classroom. I use this collection to disrupt stereotypes about Appalachian for my students.

@randi_ward's collection Whipstitches is full of small, but powerfully deep images that are woven together to tell a rich, complete story. Randi is also a gifted artist and translator:

@KeeganMLester's work is loved by both my students and I. Keegan performed at our school's Poetry Out Loud festival, and after one of my students said, "I love Keegan's poetry because he is us, and he writes for us."

I just added @justin_b_wymer's poetry collection Deed to my classroom library this year, and it is intense & beautiful.

I have read @savsip's W.W.J.D. a dozen times in the last year. I love it so much.

@dougvangundy is a brilliant poet, fiddler, and teacher. He is the co-editor of the extraordinary collection.

I'll add some more in this thread as they come to me, but folks who came for the poetry may want to start with these incredible writers from my region. And poet buddies I may have left out, I'll get you in here...
How could I forget about @ally_wharton??
