Thread: Soul Collectors
Soul collectors people who feed off of the energy of others through affiliation & proximity, what the TL calls “brand alignment” (lol). I come across them frequently in media & entertainment circles in Jozi although they’re not limited to these spaces.
Soul collectors want everyone to know that they know people who are rich, famous & well connected. They need you to know what they have. They need you to know where they’ve been. They collect people like objects that add to their sense of self worth by increasing their status.
There’s nothing wrong with enjoying beauty or with sharing the experiences & people that make you happy. This is human, but when everything/everyone that excites you enough to share is something that appeals to a sense of elevated status there’s something not genuine about that.
Soul collectors are not interested in who people really are. They are interested in what perceived proximity will add to how people see them. Soul collectors feed off of social currency. They are the people who want you to know that they know everyone who “matters” from day one.
Private interactions with soul collectors become currency that is traded with other people for for public consumption, again, for status. It’s great when they target people who are like them, and it can be a mutually beneficial ongoing shallow status orgy. A performance of love.
It can be very sad when a soul collector sets their eyes on someone who is genuine. They like genuine people because genuine humans are an endless supply of pure energy. These are people that they target, lure in, display lovingly, and then proceed to try to break down.
Soul collectors literally eat your soul. They start out singing your praises. They make you feel special like the other bright shiny stars worthy of being in their collections. Then they flip on you. It starts slowly. Soon they’ll have you questioning your reality & who you are.
Visibility, proximity to power/fame/status, & eating off of the hearts of people who sincerely care for them are what keep the soul collector on a high. They are all invariably draining, because they rarely replenish emotionally. Even if they give materially, you still feel empty
Not all soul collectors are created equal. The danger they pose can vary. Some are just flighty folks chasing stars. Others will literally sell you to the devil to get ahead. It took me about 10-15 years of working to be able to see this type & I still get caught off guard.
