So we are four weeks away from the planned date for the @Eurovision grand final

That obviously now isn't happening, but that also means that the normal build up to the competition isn't there either

It's another void to fill, so my plan is to add to this post daily for 28 days
<1992>, the Grand Final was hosted in Malmö, Sweden

The UK were represented by @mrmichaelball with this banger 'one step out of time':
1992's Grand Final was won by Ireland's 🇮🇪 Linda Martin, singing 'Why Me?'.

ESC 1992 Fun Fact:
France's Kali, sang 'Monté la riviè' which included Haitian creole.

</1992>

See, this IS going to be fun!
<1993> the Grand Final was hosted in Millstreet, Ireland.

If you've never heard of it, that's probably because only 1,500 people lived there at the time. Eurovision's smallest host ever!

UK were represented by Sonia with another banger:
1993's grand final was won by the host nation's Niamh Kavanagh, with 'In Your Eyes':
Fun Fact Time:

1993 was the first year of pre-qualifying for the contest, post the breakup of the Yugoslav Republic

</1993>
<1994>

The ESC 1994 Grand Final was hosted in Dublin, Ireland 🇮🇪

The UK was represented by Frances Ruffelle, with 'Lonely Symphony'. Check out the wonderful head piece!
1994's ESC edition featured the debuts of Estonia🇪🇪, Hungary🇭🇺, Lithuania🇱🇹, Poland🇵🇱, Romania🇷🇴, Russia🇷🇺 and Slovakia🇸🇰.

The winner's were the host's, Ireland, once more. Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan with 'Rock 'n' Roll Kids' - nice harmonies:
ESC 1994 Fun Fact:

Due to the influx of new nations joining the fun, relegation was introduced!
</1994>
<1995>

The 1995 ESC Grand Final was hosted, once again, in Dublin.

The UK were represented by the tartan clad, rap wondergroup Love City Groove, with their self-titled track. This obviously served as a platform for bigger and better things:
In a change to convention, Norway🇳🇴 won with Nocturne's 'Secret Garden'....but don't worry Ireland fans, the violinist was Irish🇮🇪!!
Fun (speculative) fact time:

It was rumoured that @rte were not keen to foot the bill to host another contest, selecting a song representing Ireland that was perceived to be less strong.

Inspiring the comedy Father Ted to do a Eurovision parody:

</1995>
<1996>

The 1996 ESC Grand Final was hosted in Oslo, Norway.

The UK were represented by Gina G with yet another banger (incidentally, the first single my wife ever bought!), 'Ooh aah....Just a little bit':
The winning song was from the serial winners, Ireland🇮🇪, with Eimear Quinn's 'The Voice'.
Fun fact time:

A-Ha's Morten Harket performed the opening piece as the Grand Final opened.

Heaven's not for saints - not quite at the same level as Take on Me!

</1996>
<1997>

The 1997 ESC Grand Final was hosted in Dublin.....again!

This was the UK's year!

Katrina and the Waves won the competition, which remains the UK's most recent vistory.

Love Shine A Light:
Marc Roberts, of Ireland did finish 2nd. So, I could have shared that here.

But, I prefer the Netherlands' entry 'Niemand heeft nog tijd' by Mrs. Einstein, who were robbed.....finishing 22/25 with only 5 points!
1997 ESC Fun Fact time:

This was the first year trialling televoting for the results by 🇬🇧🇦🇹🇩🇪🇸🇪 and🇨🇭

The UK received 46/48 possible points from televoting that year (a whopping 95.83%)

This would obviously act as a platform for the UK's continued success in the ESC!
