Apple iOS [thread]
People make fun of Apple Maps (I'd prefer Google for navigation) but the Flyover ( https://support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/iphone/iph81a3f978/ios ) and 3D Maps are a lot of fun.
My iOS device (iPad Pro) came with a year of @AppleTV+, so I am now a subscriber.
The mini "floating keyboard" (with swipe, etc) on iPadOS is magic. https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT210758
It even works with Gboard! https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/gboard-the-google-keyboard/id1091700242
The floating keyboard sometimes pops up blank when I use Gboard. It does enable swipe on the full size keyboard though. Swings and roundabouts.
Did you know you there's no native WhatsApp for the iPad at all? And @signalapp only works if you can link it via your phone.
I bought @BlinkShell for the iPad Pro today. https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/blink-shell-mosh-ssh-client/id1156707581
It annoys me that the prompt for my @Apple account password happens in a modal that won't let me switch to @1Password. This stuff seems smoother on @Android.
In-app logins that require a context switch to @1Password or another authenticator app can also break because safari resets when you switch apps.
And does anyone else wish the @SlackHQ iOS app ran on other platforms?
They teased me today and said my Magic Keyboard delivery was pulled forward to "before the end of the day today". There's another 9 minutes but I'm not holding out much hope.
Is there a way to temporarily use the on-screen keyboard without having to disconnect an external one? I haven't found it.
This thread will inevitably cover hardware as well as iOS (iPadOS) as they're inextricably linked. A small observation...
I absolutely love the Pencil 2, but I've stopped storing it on the side of the iPad (protected by OtterBox Symmetry 360 case) and I feel so much less anxious. It's night and day.
I wish there were a way to make @googlephotos sync photos without videos.
I'm very surprised that I can't have the @twitter app open links in an external browser.
