Van Jefferson vs LSU DB's thread starts here

VJ 6'1 200 lbs.

vs

Kristian Fulton 5'11 197
Derek Stingley 6'0 190
Early in the game, Jefferson was getting open but not getting the ball. Good job of bringing the LOS to the DB before taking a speed release, and strong, sudden break on the comeback
After Jefferson got open a couple of times on Fulton and Stingley on slants, they figured it out but UF kept running him on slants on their RPOs.

Fulton knew what was coming and smoothers the route here.
Comeback vs Stingley

A little hesi, skip release + pace change in the middle of the stem + sudden break.... but no ball
3rd down

VJ runs a Rub Return (Shanny terminology)

Fulton tries to avoid a rub and jump the in. Looks to be his fault on the coverage bust here.

Good job of knowing where the sticks are by VJ
Stick China route in the endzone vs safety Karl Vincent

He's gets so compact and is so smooth out of breaks. Does a good job of catching through contact here.
Fade vs Stingley

Watch his right foot go against backfoot so he squares up with CB. Motor releases. Gets Stingley to stay inside.

Doesn't have great top end speed but he got Stingley out of phase here and then makes a nice adjustment on the backshoulder fade.
Next play, Stingley plays outside shoudler. Still freezes him with a bit of inside step and catches another back shoudler
After loosing him Stingley up with fades, UF goes back to the slant.

VF uses a squirt release and bursts inside to get open on the slant. VF does this to DBs on slants a lot!
Gets Stingley on a squirt release slant again in the red zone

Watch he uses his shoulders. Keeps them slightly outside to sell the fade before quickly rotating inside.
Jefferson (bottom of the screen) doesn't have the speed to threaten vertically.
Good job of reading the coverage. After playing a ton of man and man-match, LSU plays zone here.

VJ reads it. Nice shake at the top to avoid contact. Sits in zone. QB throws ball high (not good to throw high/ inside vs zone) Still VJ should have caught ball.
Very difficult to run a hitch vs a good press CB but VF does it here against Fulton.

Hesitation on the release, explodes vertically, and breaks down in 3 steps
And... again, on Fulton. He's so good with keeping his shoulders squared till the last second. Makes him difficult to read.
Overall, Jefferson had an excellent game against two corners that will likely get drafted high (Stingley could be first rounder in a couple of years)

I think he lacks the speed to play on the outside exclusively but if the right team gets in the slot, he could be very productive
