“NEIGHBORS”
- A Photographic Thread During #COVID19

DAY: 1
NEIGHBORS: DAY 2
-
Nearly 2 weeks into home isolation, I was struggling to figure out how to document what was taking place, as a photographer, during the #coronavirus pandemic sweeping the globe.
NEIGHBORS: DAY 3
-
On the first day of mandated “Shelter in Place” by Atlanta mayor @KeishaBottoms, I noticed my bedroom window aligned with my neighbors April & Charlie. They were brand new to the neighborhood, just settling into their newly purchased home.
NEIGHBORS: DAY 4
-
Already seeing the internet being flooded with “isolation” photos 1 week into shelter in place, I wanted to tell a more long term story of the narrative. We agreed to meet at the window every day at 5pm to take a photo during this pandemic.
NEIGHBORS: DAY 5
-
Only speaking to them once or twice before #COVID19 began in the states, we were both strangers to each other. I really knew nothing about them, where they were from, etc. This project would not only be fun, but a learning experience.
NEIGHBORS: DAY 6
-
Being strangers of each other, and first seeming like the weirdo photographer in the window, naturally the series began slow. Just showing up for an image. A portrait with their dog, Olive, a photo with sunglasses in to add some flare. Simple.
NEIGHBORS: DAY 7
-
By the end of the first week, every day at 5pm, April & Charlie began to ease into the project. They began to lower their guard and become more creative with their photos. A dog in a chicken suit, a stuffed animal, a beer. Small things.
NEIGHBORS: DAY 8
-
But the reason we are sheltering in place is very real. The pandemic had just swept across the nation. The first week had ended and the first massive blowout of infections had just began. At this point, I was having massive anxiety attacks daily.
NEIGHBORS: DAY 9
-
By April 1st, the United States had 200,000 confirmed positive cases of #COVID19. A&C depicted this milestone with this image, overshadowed by the odd lust for toilet paper.
NEIGHBORS: DAY 10
-
By the tenth day, A&C began to loosen up even more. I learned they play instruments, although I have zero idea if an acoustic guitar and flute make a good combo. Hah.
NEIGHBORS: DAY 11
-
On day eleven, I learned they were fans of baseball and from St. Louis. I learned the hard way, however, by having to look at that Cardinals merch in the middle of Braves country. Hahahaha
NEIGHBORS: DAY 12
-
On the twelfth day, April and Charlie arrived in the window adorning colorful wigs. The real star of the show was Piper, a foster dog to accompany Olive for a couple weeks. Dogs get lonely too.
NEIGHBORS: DAY 13
-
Being new homeowners, A&C began renovating their home before the pandemic hit. On this day, they showed up to the window to highlight the progress. Everything but the kitchen sink? Nope. That too.
NEIGHBORS: DAY 14
-
10,000 deaths confirmed within the United States.
NEIGHBORS: DAY 15
-
I’d be a little freaked out too, Piper!
NEIGHBORS: DAY 16
-
April, Charlie, Olive & Piper. Along with a few books: Brave New World, How Not to Die & 1984.
NEIGHBORS: DAY 17

Someone smells.

NEIGHBORS: DAY 27

The holidays came early this year.
NEIGHBORS: DAY 28

Today, Kemp announced he would begin opening GA businesses this Friday, despite the states deaths continuing to rise. Apparently hair salons and tattoo parlors can open as long as people practice “social distancing”. What?
