A special thread on these two masterpieces, by the powerful duo of Kim Eun Sook & Lee Eung Bok, that both made a special place in my heart.

DOTS is my top kdrama since 2016 and after watching Mr. Sunshine, I just couldn’t get this theory out of my head. So, I decided—since we can no longer hope for sequels—to make a little something out of these two genius works.

A prequel and a sequel of itself.

Disclaimer: No intention of disrupting the beauty of these two as they both are already beyond genius pieces individually, both a unique masterpiece. Just simply a concept similar to a “fanfic” bc i am deeply in love with these dramas’ sense of nationalism (and love story, ofc).

And ofc—this little tease of the creators in MS, giving us a direct connection with these cameos and making Sang Wan and Hui Jin as Seo Dae Yeong and Yoon Myeong Joo’s past lives.

So how can these parallels be ignored and not imagine MS as Yoo Si Jin and Kang Mo Yeon’s past lives too. The titles themselves are already saying a lot:

Mr. Sunshine— Eugene Choi who always came to Go Ae Sin in a moment like a sunshine, or in her view of the sun itself.

He gave way to her purpose, as a sunshine giving way to a sun’s purpose—give another bright day to the land—by letting her out a dark tunnel. Go Ae Sin moving forward and the sun were Eugene Choi’s last visions, his shining ending.

Descendants of the Sun— to more Yoo Si Jin and Kang Mo Yeon, descendants who will protect the land under every sun—wherever it is—on earth.
