1. Dark Money: The Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right by Jane Mayer

hands down the best book to better understand the surge in the influence of far right radicalism in the US & who funded it
2. Teaching Community: A Pedagogy of Hope by bell hooks

It’s basically about how we can expand the way we approach discourse about race, class, gender, etc in a way that educates & engages people more fully

3. Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City by Matthew Desmond

follows the lives of 8 families during the 08 financial collapse. a look at how the us housing system exploits poor communities & proposes possible solutions, like a universal housing program
4. The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America by Richard Rothstein

title pretty much sums this one up but it’s an excellent history of how districting & racist housing policies enforce a modern day segregation that favors white neighborhoods
5. On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century by Timothy D. Snyder

suuuuuper short & simple guide on america’s authoritarianism & how to reject it
6. Are Prisons Obsolete? by Angela Davis

a case for abolishing prisons

8. War on Peace by Ronan Farrow
