now that i've beat FF7R, i'm gonna write a long ass thread about my feelings towards it. i'd love to talk to more people about it if anyone wants to.

Overall, it was incredible to see and explore the world of FF7 in so much detail. Combat was fun, but sometimes tedious /1
switching between characters nearly every action is certainly the best way to play the game effectively, but can be annoying. esp considering that non-active characters' atb bars build so fucking slowly that you HAVE to switch to them in order for them to be of any use in battle
the slums, the city, wall market - the level of detail and love put into re-imagining these places was wonderful. walking through a world i know so well and it feeling familiar yet so new was great. gave me warm fuzzies.
voice acting was really solid and the dialogue was fun. the original translation of the ps1 game wasn't great, and i wish that this was more of an improved translation over that rather than something completely new...which is where i start to get ehhhh on things
i won't go into spoilers but there are some incredibly FUNDAMENTAL things about ff7 that this game just straight up changes, and it feels like it takes away from the importance of those events in the original game. i think that's lame as fuck.
of course i can't KNOW how these things will change the events of the game. but i can know that it's adding an extra layer of complexity that's entirely unnecessary when the base story already has plenty of twists and elements that were fine.
THERE IS A SCENE STRAIGHT UP TAKEN FROM ADVENT CHILDREN. JUST LIKE. CUT RIGHT OUT. WHY. that movie is so old at this point but they couldn't manage to create something new?? huh??

also some animations were recycled from AC, which i mean is fine i guess but why
i loved seeing tifa experience some development regarding her feelings towards avalanche and shinra. that was great. all barret and marlene scenes will forever be cherished in my heart. loved getting to know biggs, wedge, and jessie more. basically, i love all the characters.
some of the sidequests were entertaining, some were just boring. i appreciate that they wanted to focus more on the everyday life of the people of midgar, seeing that we now have the technology to explore life in the sectors more thoroughly now. but fetch quests...aren't fun :(
the amount of money i spent on this game vs the amount of time i got to spend playing doesn't quite even out, especially since it's not a full game. most final fantasy games i expect to put in like a minimum of 75 hours but this game can be beat in 30
I JUST REMEMBERED - RED XIII'S ANIMATIONS ARE SO FUNKYYYYY he looks like an animatronic at disneyland what the HELL was that
i feel like the ending just morphed ff7 into a kingdom hearts game. kh is great but ff7 isn't supposed to be kh. like the whole last chapter felt like i was playing kh2 while advent children was forcibly being livewired into my brain via those weird ass contraptions in the matrix
having beat the game, if you want to experience final fantasy 7 for the first time, you might want to play the original. this game really adds/changes core aspects of the original plot. maybe those changes will turn out to be good, but as it was presented, i wasn't a huge fan
i wanted to go into the love triangle and how that should've just been left the fuck alone, ESPECIALLY NOW BC OF SOME OF THE BLSLDFKHJSOIFGH anyway but i'll get into that later i'm gonna eat pizza and play animal crossing until i die
returning to this thread to add smth i forgot before: i love the jukeboxes placed throughout the game and showing us what song is playing in the corner. the ost was one of the most incredible things abt the og and i like that they acknowledge how special it is/was to fans
like i actually like going out of my way to buy the different songs. hearing new arrangements are fun. i will say there are a few i don't love the new arrangements for, like fight on doesn't hype me up as much in this game, and cosmo canyon just...wasn't cosmo canyon :(
