Thread: the relocation of STN9 has been in the works for a few years now. More recently, I have heard rumours that HRFE is looking at property near Cobequid Hospital. This is consistent with what management said previously, that they want to move closer to HWY102/101 exchange.
A new station near the hospital would move current STN9 approx. 3km south/east, closer to the highway, and closer to Bedford. It also moves it further away from STN10, providing better overall coverage (STNs 9 and 10 are very close together compared to some other core stations).
Combining the new STN9 location with the Burnside Connector project scheduled to go forward, that may improve responses from STN12 to STN9's area (12A is already on 1st alarms in STN9's area), but also, you might see 9Q start to make more responses to the north end of Burnside.
The new location of STN8 will also improve responses in some areas (i.e. Kingswood), but as others have pointed out, might open up a bit of a gap in the Sunnyside area. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.
This map shows some of the points. The red line is the approx. route of the new Burnside Connector. You can see how close current STNs 9 and 10 are, and how new STN9 will have pretty good access to the upper parts of Burnside once everything is done.
