I am going to do a spitball thread(hopefully short) on what I think i am seeing in this video. A few caveats
1. This is a 30 second video, enough to have spitball takes, but enough to actually really analyse start to finish of this engagement

1/(of a few) https://twitter.com/comradeisrael/status/1250194667251130373
2. We do not know when or specifically where this video was filmed, except we know it is in Northeast Nigeria(either Borno or Yobe), and it has been labelled as Nigerian soldiers ambushed by insurgents by other commentators on Twitter.
/2
3. I have no special insight to share, no non public information regarding this video, just what i can see in it
4. Finally,i am spitballing,so if you think I am wrong, don't forget this bit. And my opinions are nothing but my opinions.

With caveats aside, let's get to it 3/
Firstly, from what i can see, although this is a Nigerian Army unit and the recorder is a Nigerian soldier, this is not an ambush situation as other commenters have said it. From the distance between the insurgent heavy machine gun report (12mm/14mm type gun?)... 4/
And the pinned down soldiers and the lack of supporting small arms fire, plus the breathing space the soldiers have to actually be recording, I would say this was not a planner ambush, but rather a surprise meeting of two opposing forces, neither of which planned to meet 5/
That is, the Nigerian Army unit was on patrol and ran into a similar sized insurgent unit that was also manoeuvring in the terrain, on contact, it seems the insurgent sided took the initiative and pinned down the soldiers /6
The lone HMG and the lack of significant support small arms fire, also tell me that the insurgent commander had made the call to peel off contact, rather than develop the meeting further into a full on engagement. /7
I would say that at the time this video was being made, the insurgents were already exiting stage right from this scene. If this had been a prepared ambush, we would be watching this video, but from A'maq News Agency, and with the soldiers dead, not alive and filming 8/
Further caveats, i was not on the scene, i was not the on the ground commander, and i hate to armchair analyse decisions a commander made, especially based on a thirty second video, so please take my next opinions here with even kess salt than you took the previous 9/
That being said, the vulnerability the soldiers were in, if the insurgents decided they had the numbers and resources to turn contact into a full-on engagement, is for me, quite striking and obvious. 10/
First thing is terrain. Terrain looks flat and sparsely vegetated, with very little natural cover available, but in the distance, there seemed to be a bit more vegetation for concealment and fires seemed to not be coming from that direction. 11/
The fact that the soldiers were pinned down in such open terrain and seemed to not be seeing a need to move from it, meant that were very vulnerable to a flanking manoeuvre which would see one part of the enemy pin them down, while another outflanks and closes in to kill 12/
The lack of significant fire support available to the unit(which looks platoon sized based on vehicle nos) to return fire is in my view a big problem. A similar sized ISWAP unit would have at least three technicals mounted HMG between them 13/
A BH unit would have at least two, yet from can be seen the NA unit here has none, but there seems to be an RPG launcher present. Apart from that RPG launcher, and maybe handgrenades, the soldiers seem to only have their service rifles to fight with, which is nuts! 14/
Finally, because this thread has gone on too long, there's a noticeable lack of any discernible coordination, and command and control, amongst the soldiers. To me, service seems ridiculous, would rate a 0/10. Thanks.
