Earlier, I was posting about my #WorkingFromHome routine. I talked about getting my son started on an activity so I could work. I'll share some activities which work for us in case anyone else finds them useful. My son's 9, but some of these will also work for other age groups. https://twitter.com/tigerinstemm/status/1250707749840830464
I know many parents are keen to limit screentime, but I draw a distinction between just watching stuff & things which are a bit more active & educational. Here are some online/computer-based activities we have found helpful, so that my son can entertain himself independently...
1. Scratch coding: Scratch is a programming language designed for kids. It can be used online or on a downloaded app. https://scratch.mit.edu/
My son is using it to make animations and games. Here's an example: (sound on!)
2. Online chess. We use https://www.chesskid.com/

3. Minecraft have released a range of free "educational" worlds for kids to explore during the pandemic: https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/free-educational-content-minecraft-marketplace-
I'll try and post about some of the other activities we've been doing that don't involve screens later. In the meantime, I'd love to hear other parents top tips for what online activities their kids are enjoying at the moment! #TellTheTiger
