When the people were deprived of expertise in this area, when they were only given access to pundits and entertainers, instead of serious medical experts, they were truncated from the knowledge that might have prevented massive suffering and deaths.

Just as excluding expert knowledge and replacing it with the superstition and magical thinking of Donald Trump, in responding to a viral pandemic, has thrown us back to early-medieval-era vulnerability to a plague....

... entrusting pathologies of the human mind, which are even more complicated but also even more preventable, to those who have no idea what they are talking about, has had terrible consequences.

But for those who have no idea that mental health expertise exists in the first place, I suppose nothing seems lost, and all the damages are still “having done a wonderful job.”
