A thread on why City are not winning the league next year:

Guardiola plays a type of pass line orientated counter pressing which involves the midfielders and forwards pressing in a way which blocks all available passing lanes, so the opponent is forced to go long.
Therefore Pep relies on his defenders (mainly CBs) being able to deal with the long ball and regain possession to build organised attacks. However this season with Laporte being injured the CBs have been unable to deal with the long balls and have cost city more goals.
In addition to this Ederson has been far less consistent this season and been another factor in conceding more goals. Pep has switched the CB partnership regularly because all of them are making so many mistakes and showing no sign of consistency.
So next season they are going to need to sign a world class CB and hope Laporte will stay fit, however Laporte being fit still might not answer because we have seen him struggle with players such as Son which could suggest he won’t be the answer.
Also there might not be a CB currently out there who could fulfil the role Pep needs, other than VVD, who is going no where. So even with two better CBs the GK and LB and RB are still going to cost them goals as we have seen no consistency from the fullbacks.
As well as that the longer Pep stays in the Prem the more managers are going to learn how to play against him. Once a manager learns how to play against him they can take points away from City time and time again. In 17/18 the only managers he lost to were Mourinho and Klopp.
Both had played against him and knew how to do it, Klopp even beat Pep 3/4 times that season. The next season more managers learnt to play against him and take points away (Hodgson and Nuno) and this season they have done it again with Nuno winning both home and away.
This season we have seen all of the same managers take points away again and even Solskjaer winning both league Manchester derbys. As a result of this it is highly likely that more managers will learn to play against him and take points of him while the same ones do it again.
And with most clubs rapidly improving the quality of teams and players, and the league as a whole becoming much harder, will we ever see Pep win the Premier League again?
