Neither the UN nor any UN agency has sovereign powers. They can cajole, persuade, in an effort to get to a better standard. But that’s it. If they didn’t exist they would have to be recreated. Root and branch attacks have long thrived in the US and elsewhere. 2/3
Canada has long argued for reform and improvement of the UN, greater transparency and candour. Where there are data issues on Covid19 let’s deal with them. But let’s also look in the mirror and continue to improve ourselves as we ask for open, assessments of global efforts 3/3
