Under the #Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme #CJRS all UK employers with a #PAYE scheme will be able to access support to continue paying part of their employees’ salary for those employees that would otherwise have been laid off during this #pandemic.
This applies to all employees who have been asked to stop working, but who are being kept on the #payroll, otherwise described as ‘furloughed workers’. #HMRC will reimburse 80% of their wages, up to £2,500 per month. This is to safeguard workers from being made redundant.
The #CJRS will cover the cost of wages backdated to 1 March and is initially open for three months, but if needed, will be extended. All UK businesses are eligible.
There are some steps you will need to follow. Firstly, to designate affected employees as ‘ #furloughed workers,’ and notify your employees of the change – changing the status of employees remains subject to existing #employmentlaw and may be subject to negotiation.
You will need to submit information to #HMRC about the employees that have been #furloughed and their earnings through a new online portal. Our current understanding is that #directors may be able to use the #CJRS, but this will not cover #dividend payments.
It has been announced that #publicsector #contractors have been given access to the 80% #furlough scheme. It has also been confirmed that #dentists can utilise #CJRS for the private proportion of their practice.
The #HMRC portal for making claims will be open from Monday 20 April 2020.
NEW - The #CJRS scheme has been extended to include employees starting up to 19 March. This was previously limited to 28 February.
Guidance for apprentices and their employers: The Government have published extensive guidance but note that there are a variety of options for apprentices, including them being furloughed through the #CJRS. Full details can be found here ➡️ https://bit.ly/2VLHr5N
