#Covid19UK Exit Plan Thread
So much ill informed nonsense about an exit plan for the UK from the #Covid lockdown. Below are the World Health Organisation 6 conditions that need to be met to fully lift a lockdown. Today (16/4/20), the UK can't tick one of these off...

There two choices for an exit plan:
1) A proper exit, ie one that meets the six conditions above to prevent a further large outbreak or 2nd wave happening. The crucial thing needed to make a proper exit final is a vaccine. Currently it seems the world..

..is at least a year away from that. There is no sensible discussion of a proper exit without those 6 conditions being met, Likewise no final exit without a vaccine.

2) A groundhog exit, ie one where we leave lockdown, get another wave, go back into lockdown and so on..

Without the 6 conditions being met and with no vaccine, the virus isn't managed. The risk of another outbreak wave that could overwhelm the NHS is still there. Without those 6 conditions being met the one way to deal..

..with another breakdown would be to lockdown again. As immunity develops and the NHS and its capacity to deal with the virus develops, the lockdown windows may get smaller but they will still be needed. So we'd have a cycle of lockdown, not lockdown, lockdown again etc...

So, any discussion of an exit plan is premature without a plan to first meet the 6 exit conditions. This is essentially the plan to deal with the outbreak, eg testing etc. It is beyond naive to demand an exit plan without first demanding..

..an effective plan to deal with the disease. Discussion of an exit plan only delays and gives an excuse for in the plan to deal with the disease. The Leader of the opposition and his Health Secretary would do well to understand this.
