In 1995, he decided he’d had enough and would no longer leave his hometown New Orleans, as he couldn’t find food that he liked as much anywhere else. (5/13)

Anyway, that was the last time Fats left the New Orleans area for any reason for the rest of his life. (7/13)
In that time, he refused an invitation from President Clinton to perform at the White House.

And he even got George Bush to go to New Orleans when the President wanted to present Fats with a replacement for the National Medal of Arts that Fats lost in the Katrina floods. (9/13)
