One of my best friends lives in America.
She was given 1,200 dollars
Her husband too 1,200 dollars.
And their child 500 dollars.
That’s total 2,900 dollars to that family.

But Nigeria says anyone with up to 5,000 naira in their bank account does not need palliative.

It is well.
My friend’s husband is a banker
My friend works in the hospital.
They are not “poor” by even American standards.

Yet the American govt understands that these are tough challenging times and still provides some help to these family.

But Nigeria assumes 5,000 naira equals wealth.
“Oh America is paying people who pay taxes”

Yes And there are millions of people who pay verifiable taxes in Nigeria. Not everybody evades taxes.

Govt workers for instance.
You can’t evade tax even if you want to.
What palliative has Nigeria given these people in this pandemic?
The Nigerian govt may claim to be “trying”. Even though I’m not sure what that means in practical terms.

But the govt needs to do more.
They need to do a lot more.

Because it is only a matter of time before hunger hits people and chaos with anarchy will break out in the land.
