I did this as a DW post yesterday, but it occurred to me that a Twitter thread might also be helpful. So, a list of charities/organisations I am donating to at present:
* Food banks: I do Trussell Trust ( https://www.trusselltrust.org ) and also a local food bank.
* Food banks: I do Trussell Trust ( https://www.trusselltrust.org ) and also a local food bank.
* Civil liberties: @libertyhq ( https://www.libertyhumanrights.org.uk ). In this time of Brexit, increased police powers to deal with covid19, and a Conservative government, this feels particularly important.
* Immigration detention: @DetentionAction ( https://detentionaction.org.uk ) campaign for the rights of people held in immigration detention, and for detention reform. Detention centres are shitty at any time, but particularly when there's a global pandemic and you can't isolate properly.
* Domestic violence: @SolaceWomensAid ( https://www.solacewomensaid.org/ ), @RefugeCharity ( https://www.refuge.org.uk/ ), @Imkaan ( https://www.imkaan.org.uk ) (BME-focused advocacy, policy and strategy) and @GalopUK ( http://www.galop.org.uk/ ) (LGBT+-focused). I believe all trans-friendly.
* Homelessness: @SFTSLondon ( https://sfts.org.uk/ ) provide a free emergency night shelter and facilities to their guests. Also my brother volunteered for them so I am extra-keen to support.
I would be interested in recs for other UK organisations to support.
#covid I just keep thinking about how even though my experience of these weird times we're living in is so far OK, how shit and insecure and frightening it is for a lot of people without my privilege and luck. And not just on an individual level, but a community level too.
