Occasionally furs contact me privately after being told in public that their opinions/politics could hurt people saying something along the lines of "I'm actually a really nice person and feel like you got the wrong impression of me and wanted to clear that up."

You can't just say "I'm actually really nice." while supporting policies and figureheads that hurt me and my loved ones. Your opinions and choices make up a large part of who you are, if those choices cause people to react poorly to you, you need to reevalute why that is.

No one is required to like you, if my only impression of you is that you're supporting folks who hurt me I'm going to take a dim view of you. Choices matter, politics matter, and I'm not going to absolve someone of either just because they like thinking that they're nice.

Nice is different than good.
