My thoughts on the Newcastle United take over and why i think the EPL might witness the rise of another mid-table team like it experienced in 2008 when Sheikh Mansour took over Man City although it might take more time. https://twitter.com/Gabi_pass/status/1250447247952748545?s=19
It is no news that the current owner of the football club Mike Ashley has dropped in stock among the NUFC fans with his recent decision to furlough staff not even contested, the owner has been accused of not caring about the club and a lack of adequate investment.
His 13 year period at the club has seen record signings like Joelington,Almiron, Wijnaldum, Mitrovic with a host of other fair transfer dealings pull through. Still, the club has seen itself relegated from the EPL twice in that same period.
The takeover will see the club sold for over £300m in a deal brokered by Amanda Staveley (the same person behind the Sheikh Mansour Manchester City takeover) through her PCP Capital Partners, A firm backed with the Public Investment Fund of the Saudi Arabian Govt.
The PIF which is expected to holds
80% of ownership rights has targeted accruing total assets worth £313bn at the end of 2020. A statement that they hope to return the club to the status it once held as a top side that flirted with winning the PL title and making Europe.
What we want answered is "if this can see the club match the trajectory that saw Manchester City grow into the dominant force they currently are, at least domestically?" truth is, the current situation where the world is coping with a pandemic makes a lot of things uncertain.
From what I have read, I believe it is in the blueprint but the club will not be quick to go after mega signings when football resumes, it will be after a sustainable structure for its targetted progress. Hiring a manager capable to lead the process will be prioritized.
A rational recruitment process of people to run the club along with quality playing staff will be key, the club might want to take advantage of bosman deals which are looking more likely, bringing in some of Europe's top players to the club with the reality of FFP rules.
Expansion and development of facilities should follow and through continued investment we should see the club ready for bidding wars with Europe's top clubs to land their desired targets once it provides European football.
