THREAD

I've read the exchange between the Gordons & others where they give the reasons for their claim that the SSPX is in schism.

It's hilarious - they don't have the first clue.

I remember my Cambridge Tutor telling me, "To understand his history, know the historian".
2/

So let's look at the Sayings of the Younger Dude.

"I’m not a “trad”; this label almost always indicates a false and defiant antiquarianism. I am an orthodox son of the Church, who happens to love tradition and the Latin Mass."
3/

* The name "Traditionalist" arose in the mid 1960s to denote one who before all else had DOCTRINAL worries about Vatican II. It was never "a false & defiant antiquarianism" - a patently absurd description which disdains not just history but also the real concerns of much
4/ finer minds than Boy Dave's. It reflects a Middle School level of historical knowledge.

* So he loves tradition (sic, no capital 'T') & the Latin Mass?

Turns out in following comments that he doesn't assist at the TLM but a Novus Ordo. As he admits, he's not a "Trad'.
5/ Questioned on his fitness to "solve the SSPX question", he replies:

"While we don’t have authority because we’re laity, as people with theology/philosophy grad degrees (respectively) and civil law degrees, we’re in a good place to weigh in."
6/ Oh, really? Well, actually we don't need a couple of puffed-up degree holders to swagger into town to solve questions decided years ago. This is the province of Canon Law, Church History, & experts in doctrine. The relevant bodies are the CDF, the Papacy and Canon Lawyers.
7/ These have already spoken (although the liberal faction in Rome has made the process almost incoherent): the Society is not schismatic.

So I think boys it would be better for you to get to the beach, say "Duh", "Uhuh" and "Yeah" to each other and surf some waves.
8/ You'd be better off there than engaging in a debate on which you are totally unfitted to argue.

The Younger Dude on Bishop Schneider (Rome's official envoy to the Society: the one who knows them best, has the training to determine doctrinal & theological questions, etc.):
9/ "If he supports SSPX, then yes (he is endangering souls)."

* Bishop Schneider, according to the surf dude, is an enemy of Christ!

So what's all this about? It's plain and obvious.
10/ For whatever reasons, TM and the Gordons have fallen out. (I surmise that it's because TM is a ruthless bastard who wanted to upgrade the tone of his output; the Elder Dude had to be jettisoned, and so he was).

That leaves two Dudes, wife and family in need of an income.
11/ Not having Skojec's presentational skills, nor Marshall's contacts, they have cast about to find an issue they know will generate clicks & controversy, lead to book sales and maybe they can flog some coffee mugs.

So they decided to pick on the SSPX.
12/ So woefully ignorant is the Younger Dude that he even floated to Skojec as a "means of entry" to the debate an entirely false parallel between BXVI's lifting of the excommunications and PVI's same act with regard to the Orthodox Patriarch in the 1960s. Even Skojec was able
13/ to shoot that one down in flames in about two nano seconds. Entirely different situations.

That the Younger Dude conflates the SSPX with the Eastern Orthodox is enough to show that he is completely unfitted to the debate.
14/ May I, as the son of one of the 1960s first-wave Traditionalists in the UK, end with this:

* If you don't understand the SSPX' doctrinal objections to Anti-Church, then don't say anything.
* Attend their Masses & discover what it is to be a true Catholic in the
15/ 21st Century, in communion with a Greek Catholic of the 2nd Century, with a Frankish Catholic of the 9th Century, with a Swedish Catholic of the 14th Century, with an Aztec Catholic of the 16th Century, with any Catholic at all before that hell-damned Council of the 1960s.
