It’s not actually even about acknowledgement of privilege really. Because yeah, it doesn’t do me any good for a rich, healthy person to acknowledge that they’re well off. I don’t want pure or for people to feel bad for me.
The thing I’m angry about is that there’s been a history of gaslighting, ignorance, and disbelief when it comes to people’s hardships during normal times.
And the same people who had zero compassion for people who have struggled due to non-covid related reasons, all of a sudden feel entitled to that compassion now. And the fact that they’ve been dismissive and belittled and told people to shut up about their problems.
But suddenly they’re vocal now. That’s what hurts.
And the main reason. The main issue. It’s not just that we’re jealous or mad at people for thinking a certain way. It doesn’t do any good to just be upset about other people’s thoughts or priorities for no reason.
But. It’s the fact that those very ways of thinking are what contribute to a lot of the inequality and suffering that exists in the world.
People are entitled to their thoughts and opinions, but when those thoughts and opinions result in systemic issues which serve to oppress people and destroy lives, we have every right to be angry about it.
*pity, not pure. I don’t want pity. Damn autocorrect.
