I think I saved my life today.

Wait...there needs to be some back story. Ok, I live in the town I grew up in. In fact I live in the house I grew up in. It can be weird and it can be awesome. Today it was awesome.

In my on going battle to not be fat I've procured a bike and plan on riding it every day. Today I rode across town to the grocery store to pick up some items. It was a 4 mile round trip. I'm pretty happy with myself, especially since the last mile is all up hill.

But here's the thing. Because I live in the town I grew up in and in the house I grew up in when I go for a bike ride I'm riding where I rode as a kid. Same streets, same parks, same alleys.

This was the first time in 25 years I'd taken a bike ride around my home town.

I rode down the driveway and around the corner. Rode past my best friend's house (his parents still live there) and down past my elementary school and high school. I cut through parking lots and an empty lot that's always been empty. We used to cut through it as kids.

I couldn't help but think I was 14 again with my buddies Nick, Jon and Steve right there with me.

If you guys have followed me for a while you know I've got a lot going on. I probably work too much but it's gotta be done. No one else is going to do it for me.

But for a few minutes today I was a kid again. No responsibility, no worries. Just a kid on his bike in his home town and honestly...I think I saved my life today.
