The @MLHealthUnit Health Board = 3 @CountyMiddlesex Councillors, 3 @CityofLdnOnt appointees (2cllrs+1citizen) & 3 provincial appointees (2 vacancies). The Board unanimously supported staff recommendation to re-use where possible, sell what they could & donate to orgs in need.
Board unanimously approved decision to save $$$ buying new furniture vs higher cost of dismantling 40 y.o. cubicles/desks. Some furniture (i.e., lg tables) didn’t fit in smaller space in the new digs. Zero interest from buyers given age and condition of furniture and equipment.
Anyone with an old iPod knows old tech often can’t be integrated with newer tech. Landlord assured @MLHealthUnit staff that whiteboards, etc would be given to County schools. Yes, schools are closed now but why aren’t county politicians aware that county staff committed to this?
Many items were to be donated but final move took place mid-pandemic. Donations to charities were halted. Photocopiers/printers NOT owned by the MLHU but by private biz that leased the equipment to MLHU. It's expected that they'll retrieve their property when shut-down is lifted.
Medical equipment is out of date or no longer meets prov. requirements, i.e., syringes, baby scales . During final walk-thru with landlord & new owner, it was clear what was being left. Again, commitments were generously made that it would be taken care of. MLHU staff were gr8ful
Both City & County taxpayers will reap substantial financial benefits from this move. Not only because of smaller footprint but also because overall price per sq m is less. Going forward, MLHU will realize savings of $200,000 per year in leasing costs.
Relocation project, begun >2 yrs ago, was completed during the biggest public health crisis of our time - on time and under budget. During final stage, entire city was in lock-down, incl moving cos, etc. MLHU was assured that what was left – even trash – would be looked after.
From start to finish, this project has been conducted in a manner that's been transparent and fiscally responsible. The Board oversees and scrutinizes every major decision made by admin of the MLHU. Every major financial decision of relocation project was voted on by the Board.
In the midst of the biggest challenge our community has ever faced, when we should be coming together, for county officials to call the media with juicy “gotcha” news stories, instead of calling @MLHealthUnit staff or the Board to ask questions is discouraging to say the least.
There is important work being done by @MLHealthUnit in the midst of this pandemic. The majority of staff are dedicated full-time to pandemic response. To see this kind of misinformation spread about an org of which they are rightfully proud is disheartening & demoralizing.
We'll most definitely discuss this situation at the Board meeting tomorrow night. It will be an opportunity to set the record straight, to remind the public of the life-saving work being done by MLHU staff today and of the crucial role they play in our community each and everyday
