Now, if ppl are okay with getting evicted and comfortable with that *likely* consequence - ok. But folks need to know that a rent strike could lead to eviction.
In places like CA where tenants can request jury trials (which take months and months and months) - yeah you have a lot more leverage when you withhold your rent. In WA where it is a summary proceedings process (ie quick)? Not much leverage.
And would I be holding my breath that our conservative leaning judiciary would take a political position in favor of tenants? A year ago they were signing off on evictions for a few bucks because they felt the law required it. Last year’s eviction reform legislation helps but...
It is designed for tenants in emergencies - ppl who can’t pay bc of illness, job loss, etc.
Again - if ppl think this is a necessary tactic for your campaign - ok, but accept that the risk of eviction isn’t minimal.
