What if veterinarian Daichi runs a twitter filled with pictures of puppies and him holding puppies (but his face is always half covered by the puppy) and he gains a crazy following

He doesn't expect his account to blow up he's kinda flattered at the attention anyway
Cue Kuroo (who has been quietly pining for him ever since they started working together) getting intensely jealous because Daichi is getting so much attention from people who are much hotter and much cooler than he can ever hope to be so he starts to slowly distance himself
Daichi notices but Kuroo pretends like nothing is wrong. One day he posts a picture of Kuroo hefting up a giant husky to his twitter (with permission) and it absolutely blows up. People find Kuroo's twit and follow him and are openly (and extremely) thirsty for him
Kuroo gets a real kick out of unabashedly flirting back with the people in his replies and Daichi sees and oh, what is this ugly hollow feeling in his chest now? It sure smells a lot like jealousy but he isn't jealous that Kuroo is getting more attention than he is, no
no, he's not even jealous that Kuroo's flirting with everyone because he knows Kuroo is just Like That,

he's jealous because Kuroo used to flirt with him but doesn't anymore, just when Daichi was slowly realising that he wanted to get to know Kuroo as more than a friend
Like Kuroo saw Daichi wanting and immediately decided to abort mission because he wasn't into Daichi at all.

It makes him angry, even if he doesn't particularly have the right to be. He's not entitled to anything from Kuroo, and Kuroo wasn't trying to lead him on, but still,
it hurts.

It hurts and he doesn't like it.

He decides to forget about it.
So he also pretends that he is fine and it's business as usual. He continues to upload puppy pics. He starts to show more of his face because a lot of people keep asking and he figures it's not so bad.
Aaand the thirst tweets start.
He ignores all of them, especially the ones that make him uncomfortable, but for the most part they're not so bad so he doesn't really do anything about them.
But people start asking him where Kuroo is.
He's muted Kuroos account a while ago so he didn't know what they're talking about. When he looks he sees the account has been really quiet. The last post is dated a month ago.
He knows Kuroo is okay though-- he sees him every day at work after all, even if there's this odd sort of tension between them. But because so many people ask (and because he's curious too), Daichi decides to ask Kuroo about it.
"Your fans want to know why you're not on twitter anymore," he says. He hopes he sounds casual enough.

Kuroo blinks at him, surprised. They hadn't really made small talk in a while.
"I got bored. I was never active on there anyway, i just liked to reply to people, but then it was too overwhelming so i just stopped. They're just randos on the internet, not like i owe them anything." He puts his fingers through a cage and wiggles them.
The cat that's sitting inside ignores him completely. "You can tell them i got busy and don't have time for twitter anymore."
Daichi wants to roll his eyes but doesn't. He thinks an unkind thought about Kuroo's ability to 'just stop' and then feels bad for thinking like that. "Alright then," he says. Kuroo doesn't reply, so Daichi leaves. At least he has his answer now.
Sadly for him, the answer doesn't appease Kuroo's fans, but it's not like they can do much. He still gets the occasional comment asking about Kuroo that he simply ignores. He continues to live his life, Kuroo lives his own. The share a courteous, professional relationship.
They stay busy and occupied, till there's a point where the awkwardness naturally dissipates and they become friendly again. Daichi likes it. His old feelings linger, but they're not strong enough. He is grateful that their old camaraderie has returned. He missed it.
(CW for next few tweets: animal abandonment/ endagerment)

One day, just as they get ready to close the clinic, someone comes barging in, holding a box- in it are 5 puppies looking to be a week or so old, wet, barely moving. The girl babbles at them--
she was dumping the trash in the alley when she saw them in a plastic crate, filled with water after the morning's downpour. She'd plucked them from the crate and driven straight here, please, were they okay, would they make it, could they do anything to help--
The team gets to work, like a well oiled machine. It's harrowing, and Daichi knows everyone's heart is full, full with hurt for the poor defenseless creatures, full with anger at the cruel people who would do such a thing.

(end CW)
But in the end, all the puppies make it okay. They cheer and congratulate each other, grateful and happy and relieved.

Everyone begins to trickle out of the clinic, but Kuroo and Daichi linger.
Kuroo, because he wantsto spend some more time with the pups, and Daichi because he wants to make sure Kuroo actually goes home.

When he comes back from seeing the last person off at the door, he's met with a sight.
Kuroo has gathered all 5 of the puppies-- swaddled like babies-- in his arms, cooing at them and kissing them and talking to them softly. It's beyond adorable.

Daichi pulls out his phone.
"Kuroo, smile," he says, and Kuroo gives him the biggest, brightest smile that has ever been smiled, shining like the fucking sun. "You mind if i put this on my account?" Daichi asks, because while he wants to keep this for himself, he also wants to share it with the world.
"Sure, go ahead!" Kuroo replies easily. "I deleted my twitter so i don't care!"

Daichi gives him a quizzical look even as he types away.

"It was boring, and people kept trying to give me money to go on dates with them."
Daichi throws his head back with a bark of laughter. "You mean like a sugar baby or like an escort?"

Kuroo shrugged, grinning. "Both, I think. It's a real struggle, having a face as beautiful as mine."

"I believe you." Daichi chuckles. "scootch over, I wanna hold them too."
Things definitely get better after that. Kuroo starts appearing in more of Daichi's photos, sometimes together, each holding a dog. Slowly it starts to include the rest of the staff too (those who are comfortable with it anyway).
Kuroo feels like his relationship with Daichi has improved. They talk more now, and they hang out when they get the chance. Kuroo's started playfully flirting with him again.
There's something new, though.
Now, Daichi flirts back. He isn't as cheesy about it, but now he returns the playful taunts with a smile. One time he winked and Kuroo almost walked straight into a wall.
Kuroo doesn't know what this development means, however, and he's too afraid to bring it up. He'd already managed to mess up their friendship one time (and he's still not exactly sure how it got so bad) and he doesn't want to do it again. So he carries on as usual.
One day, Daichi posts a picture of Kuroo doing the lion king pose with a round little chow chow puppy (aptly named Tater tot). It gets the appropiate amount of interactions. Then someone asks him: Why aren't you in the picture with your boyfriend?
In an hour, Daichi's notifs are flooded with replies ranging from "You're boyfriends?" to "since when have you been dating?" to "i knew you guys were dating!!" to "Congrats on the relationship!". Some people are asking to be invited to the wedding.
Daichi doesn't mention any of this to Kuroo yet, not wanting to worry him. He knows he has to put a stop to this and set the record straight, but there's a part of him that holds off, continuing to scroll through the replies.
People are posting older pictures of them as "proof" of their compatibility, pointing out how Kuroo's looking at Daichi like he's he the most fascinating thing in the world, and Daichi's gazing at Kuroo like he hung the sun in the sky.
And while the rational part of him wants to dismiss it as people simply finding what they wanted to see, a part of him also yearns. He wants what they say to be true. He wants Kuroo to look at him with that wide, eager smile that Daichi had only seen directed at baby animals.
He wants Kuroo to look at him with adoration and love, because when he looks at Kuroo that's all he feels.

He wants Kuroo to be his boyfriend.
